We now offer canine DNA testing at our hospital. The Wisdom Panel from Mars Veterinary can compare your dog’s DNA with samples from hundreds of breeds. Wisdom Panel is the most comprehensive mixed breed analysis commercially available.
A simple visit to our office, a quick blood draw, and a short wait is all it takes. In three to four weeks you’ll know exactly what breeds Fido’s forefathers were. It’s fun to think that all the questions about your dog’s physical characteristics could be answered. But, there are also health advantages to this testing.
Every breed has specific health concerns. Knowing the genetic make-up of your pet, could help you know what to expect when symptoms arise. For example, if your dog has Bichon or Schnauzer in the pedigree, he or she could be more susceptible to bladder stones. Therefore, you would need to keep a closer eye on urinary infections. This test offers very important information that could improve your dog’s health in the years to come.
